Urban and Regional Studies Department

This department focuses on various tasks related to the design, planning and developing safe environments compatible with the earthquake risk level and geological hazards. The research areas include:

  • Preparing standards and criteria for developing safe urban-regional areas;

  • Estimating the loss and risk associated with probable earthquakes in urban areas;

  • Studying the effects of hazardous facilities in urban and rural areas;

  • Performing research on the reconstruction process in regions hit by earthquakes.

Emergency Management Department

This department was formed with the aim of performing multi-facet researches in studying and understanding the elements ruling the environment in the emergency conditions, and compiling the necessary criteria for promoting the emergency reactions.
Some of the main plans of this department are:

  • Identifying and analyzing the components of emergency conditions;

  • Developing emergency response plans for various socio-economic levels;

  • Providing emergency response plans in urban and rural areas.

Socio-Economic and Cultural Studies Department

Studying and research in cultural, social and economical aspects related to earthquakes and incorporating the results with risk management issues, especially with the aim of elevating public cooperation and promoting safety culture are among the main goals of this department. Some major plans of this department are:

  • Determining the dimensions of cultural, social and economical problems of earthquakes;

  • Determining the economic-cultural approaches to reduce the damage caused by earthquakes;

  • Promoting safety and self-help culture in the society.

Geomatics Department

With respect to the ever-increasing technological development of using spatial and attributal data in various aspects of risk reduction and disaster management, the Geomatics Department is formed aiming the implementation of cohesive studies and techniques in this regard.
The main plans for this department are:

  • Studying the application of geo-information technologies in earthquake risk management;

  • Developing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for risk and disaster management;

  • Developing different integrated systems using advanced technologies for rapid monitoring and evaluating the damage caused by earthquakes.
