Geotechnical Hazard Zonation of Lorestan Province

Lorestan province is one of the areas most susceptible to geotechnical problems in Iran. More than 4.8% of the province surface being affected by landslide activity. The effects include damage or disturbance to villages, farmlands, roads and forests. For evaluating landslide hazard in the province, firstly, the moved slopes including 274 landslides and landslide zones were mapped. The method of landslide hazard zonation used in this study was according to factors overlaying by GIS.
A number of factors contributing landslide were considered, including lithology, slope steepness, slope aspect, distance from faults, seismic hazards, roads and precipitation.
The facets were formed by overlaying of the factor maps. For each facet, an assessment of the likely contributory factors were recorded in terms of a Surface Percentage Index (SPI):

According to SPIs, Hazard Potential Index (HPI) was calculated:
HPI = sum(R*W)/sum (W)
Which: R is the rate number for each subgroup;
           W is the weight of each factor map;
           and  HPI is Hazard Potential Index ;

Same as landslide, for other geotechnical problems such as liquefaction, ground subsidence and problematic soils, the preceding stages, by a little differences, were proposed and their hazard maps were produced.
