Research/Teaching & Memberships

Research Interests

  • Near-fault ground motion simulation using kinematic model and investigation of fault local parameters (ex. Asperity dimensions and locations, distribution of slip, rupture propagation direction…) on near-fault strong ground motion characteristics.

  • Evaluation of building damage and investigation on damage rates and its relation with ground motion parameters (e.x. PGA, PGV, PGD) and seismic intensity; estimation of damage ratio and death rate functions as well as database construction of seismic damage buildings and human injury based on damage survey.

  • Wave propagation in heterogeneous media, rotational ground motion (torsion and rocking) characteristics and their effect on the structural response.

  • Microteromor and earthquake data processing and introducing a new method (so called Segmental cross-spectrum) in spectral analysis of microtremors and earthquake data for site response analysis and seismic microzonation; Ground motion cross-coupling and its effect on soil amplification and structural response characteristics.

  • Parametric and Non-parametric linear and non-linear system identification as well as application of ARX model for back-calculation of dynamic soil properties; Application of SASW (spectral analysis of surface waves) and SPAC (spatial autocorrelation method) techniques in identification of subsoil structures.

Active Projects

  • Study on the characteristics of rotational ground motion using 3D dense array data.

  • Evaluation of earthquake damage in cities using GIS and satellite images.

  • Estimation of velocity structure using microtremor array measurements and SPAC method.

Recent Accomplished Projects

  • Investigation of the local source parameters on the Near-fault strong motion characteristics using theoretical Green's function and Kinematic simulation.

  • Study on the coupling of strong ground motion in heterogeneous media and its effect on amplification function as well as its application in identification of subsurface geological irregularities for seismic microzonation studies.

  • Study on database construction and data mining for uncovering the mechanism of human injury in seismic damage buildings, a report produce by Grant-in-Aid for scientific research of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences, Grant No. 14404008.
