Public Education Department of IIEES has published many educational materials for all groups of the society.

The list of publications are as following:


Posters

One of theuseful educational materials which could be used in educating public visually is poster.
Public Education Department of IIEES, provides several posters in attention to each function and specially disciplinary.
Some posters have both objects, illustration and written, and also have both uses, information and education (like the poster of earthquake and safety at schools) but some of them just illustration aspect.
This posters provide by taking in to consideration different places, age and individual’s ability. The posters under consideration by experts in aspect of color-blending, Relation and with spectator and attractive. (by experts) as fallow, point to some posters.

This poster has been prepared for infants and elementary grades. In this poster 15 points, as the most important safety recommendations have been introduced along with some pictures & simple explanations.
 

" What to do during an earthquake”??

This poster presents the most important safety recommendations before, during and after an earthquake with due attention to the abilities of adolescences of guidance and high grades.

This poster introduces 11 points of the most important recommendations for suitable shelter taking with due attention to equipmental possibilities and the atmosphere of administrative buildings.

In detail, there are in this poster safety points of preparedness before an earthquake, shelter taking operations during the occurring, evacuation and surrounding’s control after it and other necessary operations.

For awareness of people in the society in different situatioins the most important structural safety recommendations in a simple language with written and painted language have been prepared for public in the form of street posters and these posters have been erected in intersections and highways.

Books for children

This book has been compiles for primary school children, but it could be useful for day-care children with the adult assistance, too.
In this book children will learn about earthquake
and why it happens, main scientific words about earthquake and the main safety recommandation before, during and after the earthquake in a simple way and by illustrating the educational subjects and games.
The english version has been provided by UNDP demmand.

This book is one of the most complete books that have been with the aim of scientific teaching about the earthquake phenomenon to children and adolescence.
In this book one of the most complicated phenomenon of the world has been expressed with a clarity and simple language.

"Let's Reduce earthquake hazards"

In this book the prevention steps, appropriate behaviors during an earthquake and prominent activities after the earthquake have been illustrated with the expoundations.
The matters of this book have been compiled in two persian and english language by UNDP demand.

"Earthquake preparedness"

This book encourage children to protect their society from natuiral hazards.
This book has been published in 1995 on the accasion of international day of natural disaster reduction and there are some of children's social activities in some counties in it.
This book has been compiled to be used by students from all around the world with the aim of making children educated about the natural disasters.
This book could be used by 8-12 children but it is instructive even for under 8 children or over 12 ones.

  • The earthquake and safety maneuver brochure at schools
    In this brochure, try to training the students what is main acts and correct operation during and after an earthquake with using in new variety models and attractive colors. In this way, students prepare to do correct actions in the earthquake and safety maneuver, and on the other hand, when brochure transfer students to their home, they training theirs family too.

  • Earthquake Drill in Family

Audio-Visual Educations

In new era and in attention to technological progresses and to enjoy Audio-visual education, pulic education department of IIEEs, has provided variety videos, that, in this way, increase public awareness, especially children, adolescents and youths. In creating the educational films we`ve tried to make them intresting by using high quality film making methods.
Television is one of the most effective educational tools, and IIEES has had educational programmes since 1998 in Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.

  • The film “ Rumour”
    This film for 30 minutes shows the rumour related to the quality of publication and people’s reaction against it and with denial of superstitious ideas and acceptance of the rumours in public, introduces satirically the scientific realities relating to this phenomenon

  • The film “paper walls”
    The basic subject of this story film which takes 30 minutes, is necessity of resistance against the earthquake.

  • Educational Teasers
    Provide some 3 minutes program that separately presentation safety message about basic structural safety and non structural.

  • The film “Yekbar Jasty Malakhak”
    The mentioned film has been prepared in the form of a long story and its basic subject is about necessity and executive procedures for making the building, earthquake resistant.

  • The Television Educational Film of Earthquake and Safety Maneuver at Schools
    This film, presentation necessary training for performance earthquake and safety maneuver at schools, and also, training important points, (correct) suitable take shelter and evacuation. For preparedness and awareness students, in relation with, that how to performance maneuver, this film shows via national network for one week before maneuver.

  • Audio-Education 
    The Audio-education can be an attractive method that composing from educational materials and music. Public education department achieved to one of the aims, through provide musical cassette, that could presentation educational messages shaped like musical training for different levels. The education permanent through repetition is one of the especial disciplinary in this procedure, as fallow, presentation some educational cassette.

    • The safety messages in departments
      Some safety recommendations before, during and after he earthquake specially for public places and departments in particular have been recorded on the tape in “Hold” system in telephone conversation or with distribution of building central system can be heard.

    • Audio-tape of safety messages in families
      Prevention recommendations before, shelter taking during an earthquake and rescuing activities after it, which are proportional with atmosphere, possibilities and family’s members characteristics have been recorded on audio-tape and it is usable for illiterate people.

    • The earthquake song and story for children
      This tape presents safety recommendations during an earthquake in the form of a poem and a happy music. With due attention to poem’s simpleness and fluency and also quality of execution and tune, infant’s reception and learning were in high level. In continuation of this poem some scientific explanations related to the earthquake and again safety points in a simple language and in the form of a conversation between an infant and his teacher have been presented.

Education in Text Books 

Due to necessity of creating safety culture among infants and adolescences based on their number, vulnerability and their place in future of the society; public education of International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, from the beginning of its work has fulfilled some projects for these groups.
As a result, textbooks due to their possibility to cover, all students in different parts of the country and presenting a unique and congenial education were selected as one of the best procedures and educational subjects were prepared and presented in suitable book with due attention to Physical and mental ability, student’s previous knowledge and skill in each grade.
In this field we can point to following cases:

  • The Earthquake Preparedness lesson, the book “Defensive Preparedness” of third grade of guidance school (for boys).
    One Chapter of this book is about earthquake preparedness. The subject of this chapter have been prepared with due attention to previous knowledge of adolescences about the earthquake, their Physical and learning ability. It includes:

    • The necessity and importance of gaining preparedness against earthquake hazards.

    • The emergency preparedness before an earthquake (Preparedness)

    • The emergency safety points during an earthquake. (taking shelter in correct)

    • The emergency safety points after an earthquake (evacuation and relief)

    • The earthquake educational manoeuver.

    The subjects relating to above titles have been presented in such a way that students, after learning can extend their information to whole places, and also they can gain necessary psychological and Physical and skill ability. The subjects have been introduced so that all students and their instructional educators together and in the form of smaller groups could undertake various duties and act practically according safety recommendations in educational centers, so that they can organize preceding safety measures units and next rescuing units at school.

    The whole subjects along with pictures show executive procedures of safety points. At the end the directions of maneuver of a supposed earthquake preparedness has been presented that make them ready for quick and suitable reaction during an earthquake.

  • The earthquake preparedness in the book “Herfe-O-Fan” for the third grade of guidance school (for girls).
    The subjects in the above book, like boy’s book with pointing to importance of structural safety recommendation of three previous sections during and after an earthquake. These subjects causes that students after learning can participate practically not only in safety measures of educational centers, but also in their living place so that can protect themselves during an earthquake and cooperate in activities after an earthquake before relief and rescue workers reach. At the end of this section there is the direction of maneuver of a supposed earthquake preparedness.

  • Safety lesson against the earthquake in the book of Geography for the third grade of guidance school.
    Meanwhile the country’s seismicity situation has been descripted by using map and pictures.

  • The lesson of Inner Secrets in the book “Persian language” for third grade of guidance school.
    In this lesson, in the form of a literal text, in addition to getting informed of some earthquakes & volcanoes that so far have happened, the students learn that earthquake like other phenomenons, is unavoidable. They also learn the correct way of facing with this phenomenon.
    Also, with description of beauties of these natural phenomenons, it has been tried to reduce the student’s fear.

  • The Calmless Earth in book “Experimental Science” of fourth grade of primary school.
    In this lesson it has been tried to make students acquainted with inner parts of the earth and the operation of each part and volcano phenomenon and its appearing. Also how an earthquake happens its effects and consequences and the seismological situation of our country, have been discussed in this lesson. At the end some operations that students can do for their safety during an earthquake have been quoted briefly.

  • Handbook of preparedness teaching against the earthquake for teachers of third grade of guidance school.
    Mentioned book is specialized for teachers and it includes the complementary subjects about earthquake and scientific subjects related to it such as the effect of earthquake on the earth and buildings & the source of earthquake and world’s seismic regions. In this book the method of teaching and student’s cooperation in activities that are related to safety measures of educational centers, maneuver of a supposed earthquake preparedness have been mentioned. By the way with due attention to considerable efficiency of learning of mentioned subjects, Institute with cooperation of Ministry of Education has prepared the plan of a comprehensive lesson. According to this plan the lessons related to safety against various incidents specially the earthquake in different books of elementary, guidance and high school grades, and now the preparing of the texts of these lessons is in process of execution.
