Structural Laboratory

Data Acquisition Systems

  •  Multi-point measuring unit for a maximum of 100 measuring points with incorporated triple mode amplifier (CF 600 Hz, 5 kHz, and DC), computer interface and tape printer, separate operator keyboard, and mains supply of 220 V.  Ten Selector units each for connection of 10 strain gauges in quarter-, half-, and full-bridge circuits, as well as inductive transducers. Made by HBM, Germany. 

  • Digital measuring amplifier system with measuring rate of 1-9600 samples/sec, resolution of up to 20 bit = 1´000´000 digits by averaging.  Memory of up to 40´000 values, controllable via RS-232, RS-485, or IEEE-488 interfaces. Eight 4.8 kHz amplifiers for strain gauge transducers in full- or half-bridge configurations or DC measurements +/-10V.  Excitation  voltage of 0.625-5V DC, ranges +/-1.25-1280 mV/V, cutoff frequency 2200 Hz (-3dB), and 0ne A/D converter per channel.  Two DC amplifiers with voltages of   +/-100mV, +/-1V, and +/- 10V, with DC currents of +/-20mA, and +/-200mA.  Made by HBM, Germany.

Multi-channel Analysis System

  • FFT-based system for signal and system analysis. Areas of major application include  vibrations, acoustics,  and structural and  modal testing. Hardware includes accelerometers, force transducers, charge amplifiers, small vibration exciters, impact hammer, 7-channel data acquisition system, 2 generator modules , and power amplifiers.  Made by B&K, Denmark.

Servo-hydraulic Shaking Table  

  • Servo-hydraulic vibration system consisting of a 1200x1300mm, 440 kg table in the vertical direction,and a horizontal slip table of 1200x1465mm on granite block.  Dynamic capacity is +/- 45 kN with 50mm nominal working stroke. 100mm diameter piston rod with integral LVDT.  2 Two-stage servo-valves each with a nominal flow rate of 50 l/min.  2 PCB accelerometers. The hydraulic power supply consists of a 37 kW electrically powered motor delivering 90 l/min. 210 bar operating pressure and 300 liter oil reservoir.  Digitally controlled via PC.  Made by Servotest, EC

Servo-hydraulic Actuators

·          Servo-hydraulic actuators are used for dynamic tests. They are in different capacities including:

·         Maximum loading frequency is 10 Hz, and maximum stroke is +/- 150mm for each actuator.

Servo-hydraulic Compression Testing Machine

  •  Servo-hydraulic compression testing machine for 1) concrete and 2) cement samples. Used for both cylindrical and cubic samples. Made by M. Kauer GmbH, Germany.

      Max.load         200 kN
      Piston stroke   30mm

Hydraulic Jacks

  • Manually operated hydraulic system for applying force consisting of a pump with a 4-way valve, and capable of producing 210 bar pressure.  Four 250 kN and two 750 kN pistons. Made by ENERPAC, USA.

Transducers and Gauges

  • Load cells:           four 300 kN, two 1,000 kN, one, 50 kN, and one 250 kN.

  • LVDT:                  ranging from 20 to 200mm

  • Strain Gauges:     singles and Rosetts

  • Accelerometers

Strong Floor and Reaction Frames

  • A 12x12m strong floor with a grid of 1.5x1.5m connecting stations.  Each station capable of loading of up to 600 kN.

  • Five 1,000 kN reaction frames each standing 165cm high.

Shop Tools

  • Tools for manufacturing light steel components/frame-structures are available.

    • 1x500 KN, Stroke ±500 mm

  • Some of the above Actuator is going to be used in a new Testing Machine for Seismic Isolators.
