The Northeast of Aran - Bidgol Earthquake of  September 5, 2005(ML=4.8)

On September 5, 2005 ,at 2:00 p.m. (local time) in the southern region of the Salt Desert, about 50 km northeast of Aran-Bidgol, near faults with a northeast-southwest bearing, an earthquake with ML=4.8 (Local Magnitude) occurred. The epicenter of this earthquake, according to recorded seismograms of the broad band seismic network of IIEES was recorded at 34.17 N and 52.06 E. The earthquake was felt in Esfahan, Yazd, Semnan, Markazi, Qom, and Tehran provinces, while the tremors were distinctly felt at the institute in Northern Tehran. This event was recorded at 12 stations of the broad band seismic networks of the institute. Estimated depth was initially about 14 km. This earthquake has had a number of aftershocks, the biggest of which had ML=2.0. It is citable that on Saturday, an earthquake ML=2.5 had also occurred in the same region.
