National Earthquake and Safety Day in Iran's Schools
At
10:14 a.m. on November 29, 2005, students from all grade levels across the
country practiced correct sheltering procedures when confronted with an
imaginary earthquake by hearing the earthquake and safety bell from national
radio broadcasting.
This drill was organized by
the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology and
cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Islamic
Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Ministry
of Interior and Islamic
Republic of Iran's Red Crescent. At the same time a special session was held in
one of Tehran's schools, with the presence of the Minister of Science, Research
and Technology and a group of national authorities.
In this session, the minister of Science, Research and Technology emphasized on
the development of this drill in different levels of society, including
universities, and by reminding the unpleasant memories of previous earthquakes
emphasized on the necessity on focusing on continual educations in this field
and also asked for naming this day as the earthquake and safety day.
It should be remarked that the drill has been carried out by the various
organizations of the ministry of education of East Azarbayjan, Semnan, Kerman,
Qom, and Zanjan and regions 2, 7, 8, 12, 16, 18, and 19 of Tehran and also blind
and deaf students of Tehran's schools.

organizing
workshop on earthquake: education, information, access
IIEES-UNESCO workshop on earthquake: Education, Information, Access was held on
December 8th, 2005 in IIEES. The workshop was organized with the aim of
considering the modality of how to exploit IIEES experiences in the field of
reconstruction Balacut (Pakistan) region and plans for reducing earthquake
hazards in the region countries.
There were representatives of international organizations and also the region
countries attended in this workshop.

Seminar on Securing Iran's National Museum
On Tuesday, May 17th,
2005 a seminar on securing Iran's National Museum from earthquakes was held in
the Mediterranean University of Italy. This seminar was held with the
cooperation of the Mediterranean University of Italy, the International
Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, Iran's National Museum, and
the Italian office for scientific collaboration.
In this conference, Dr. Ghafory Ashtiany spoke on the risk factor of
earthquakes in Iran and the necessity for securing cultural effects. Dr. Sarvqad
Moghadam spoke on developing brick constructions, and Dr. Santini presented
Italy's proposal plan for restoring Iran's Museum.
To conclude, experts approved the joint seminar declaration as a suggestion for
securing Iran’s National museum.


Today Children from Tehran's Kindergartens Practiced Earthquake Safety
Today, Tuesday, May 17,
2005, at 10 a.m. Tehran's kindergartens simultaneously practiced proper
procedures to be done when faced with an earthquake. The head of Public
Education at the institute said: "In this maneuver, which was carried out in
seven parks in Tehran with the cooperation of 40 kindergartens, children learned
what must be done in case an earthquake occurs after hearing the earthquake
siren." Mr. Parsizadeh, speaking among children in Saei Park, while expressing
his happiness, presented children as the head of family safety and emphasized
children and teenager's training as the main goal of holding these maneuvers. He
stated," This maneuver was held with the efforts of the International Institute
of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology and the cooperation of the Country's
Welfare Organization, Tehran's Welfare Organization and also the social
assistant director of the municipality of seven districts in Tehran.
