Foreword
The Bam, Balakut and
Sumatra earthquakes disaster provided a unique window of opportunity to raise
international awareness of the importance of the effective
implementation of a comprehensive earthquake risk reduction program in
hazard-prone developing countries. It gives a challenge to the
governments to make the highest use of the existing know-how on
earthquakes and its integration into development programs. It also
compels the scientific and engineering community to provide more
socio-economic-cultural compatible solutions to national needs.
Moreover, the public at large should become more concerned about the hazard and increase its own preparedness level.
In this connection and to pursue the objectives and mission of the “Open
Alliance of UNESCO-UNDP-UN/ISDR-IIEES, on Earthquake Risk Reduction in
Developing Countries”, IIEES is proud to announce its Fifth
International Conference on Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (SEE-5)
in providing a forum for scientific discussion on the above subjects to
be convened in Tehran, Iran from 13-16 May 2007.
Topics to be addressed include Seismotectonic, Seismology, Earthquake
Prediction, Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Structural Earthquake
Engineering, Risk Management, Socio-economic and Public Awareness.
This gathering will bring together professionals from a broad range of
disciplines committed to reducing the impact of earthquakes on the built
environment.
Your participation in the conference will provide an opportunity to
exchange ideas on varieties of subjects and in addition you will have the benefit of visiting the most memorizing cultural and earthquake
effected sites in Iran. |
