The 27th nationwide earthquake and safety drill, under the theme “Safe School, Resilient Society”, was conducted this morning, November 29, with the aim of enhancing the preparedness of students and their families against earthquake risks. The drill was carried out simultaneously in schools nationwide with the sounding of the “earthquake siren.”
This year, due to air pollution conditions, the earthquake drill was held virtually in several provinces, including Tehran.
The symbolic national drill was organized with the participation of the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, the National Disaster Management Organization, the Student Organization, the School Renovation and Equipment Organization, the Youth Organization of the Red Crescent Society, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the Tehran Disaster Prevention and Management Organization, the Emergency Medical Services, and the Fire and Safety Services Organization across the provinces.
In this program, training and exercises related to improving preparedness at the schools and neighborhood levels were provided to students, teachers, and families, following the approach of “Safe School – Resilient Community”.
This program is held annually in schools across the country, and since 2016 it has been decided that safe neighboring communities will gradually be included in the process, in order to raise public awareness and preparedness against earthquake risks.
