  • The laboratory aims to support both internal and external sectors by delivering reliable seismic data, maintaining and repairing seismic monitoring equipment, producing electronic components, and supplying critical tools and materials for diverse projects.

The main programs of the lab are:

  • Designing accessories for different devices, such as switching power supplies, cable and system connectors, and electronic circuits.
  • Design and implementation of seismic data recording operations, including noise measurement for broadband stations before construction, aftershock recording, microtremor measurement, local earthquake recording, regional earthquake recording, and distant earthquakes in various research projects.
  • Planning for the maintenance and repair of seismograph and accelerograph devices.
  • Planning for the supply of necessary devices for the Seismology Laboratory.
  • Updating and calibrating the existing seismometers.
  • Working toward self-reliance in equipment repair and manufacturing.

A number of projects are carried out in this laboratory. The major ones are listed below:

  • Noise measurement of broadband seismograph stations at the Institute since 1991.
  • Installation and operation of several temporary seismic networks to record aftershocks following strong earthquakes in different parts of the country since 1991.
  • Measurement of environmental noise and microtremors for seismic geotechnical studies since 1991.
  • Recording regional and distant earthquakes for studies on the Earth’s crust and mantle structure.
  • Execution of various industry-related projects.
  • Organizing practical training courses on seismological devices and temporary networks for master’s and doctoral students.
