The increasing risk of earthquakes, due to both the high seismic hazard and the significant vulnerability of buildings in the country—along with population growth and the rapid, unregulated expansion of cities—calls for serious efforts to reduce and manage earthquake risk. In this regard, the exchange of scientific information among global researchers and the cooperation of decision-makers and the public in applying research findings are of particular importance.
To achieve these goals and to expand areas of collaboration both within the country and the region, the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), following the successful organization of three previous conferences in 1991, 1995, and 1999, is now holding the Fourth International Conference on Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (SEE4) in Iran.
The primary aim of this conference is to bring together researchers and engineers from around the world to discuss and exchange ideas on various topics in seismology and earthquake engineering. These include the latest developments in seismotectonics, seismology, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, urban and regional planning, socio-economic impacts, public awareness, and disaster management.
Following the call for papers, a total of 494 abstracts were received from 34 countries, of which 324 were accepted. Ultimately, 241 full papers were selected for publication in the conference proceedings. Of these, 149 papers are in English and 92 are in Persian.
We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the distinguished speakers, keynote presenters, and authors of top papers for their valuable contributions to the academic quality of the conference. We also extend heartfelt thanks to all IIEES faculty members, research advisors, and supporters who played a role in the successful planning and execution of the Fourth International Conference.
