To enhance the scientific capabilities of the country and establish a regional hub for research and technology, the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology has designed and constructed a comprehensive laboratory in the field of earthquake engineering. This includes structures, soil, and vibrations, aiming to meet national needs in various sectors such as construction, oil and petrochemicals, water and electricity, power plants, and beyond.

Construction of this laboratory began in June 2012 on a 7,600 square meter plot in northeastern Tehran, in the Sohanak area. The first phase of the laboratory complex covers 8,000 square meters. The second phase spans over 12,000 square meters and includes administrative, research, and support buildings.

To achieve its goals, the complex is organized into five specialized and advanced laboratories:

  • Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory
  • Centrifuge and Physical Modeling Laboratory
  • Strong Floor and Shaking Table Laboratory
  • Structural Engineering Laboratory
  • Seismology Laboratory
